A missile struck an apartment building in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on Sunday, killing one person, injuring at least three and causing severe damage, according to the region’s governor Oleh Sinhopov.
A Reuters picture from the site showed a fire engulfing part of an apartment building in the country’s second most populous city. Sinhopov said the strike took place in the central district of Kyiv.
Three people sustained minor injuries. Unfortunately, an elderly woman was killed,” Sinhopov wrote on the Telegram messaging app. “Her husband was near her when the strike took place, miraculously not badly injured. »
Senhopov told the media that rescue teams are searching for another missing elderly woman who may be under the rubble left by the collision.
He was quoted as saying, “The fourth floor is destroyed. It is an old building. We understand that the second and third floors have sustained significant damage. The entire part of the building is no longer habitable.”
Anatoly Turyanek, deputy head of the Kharkiv emergency services, said the building was made of wood. He said there was no indication of more casualties.
